Rosacea is more than just redness

Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 people in the UK, although many people remain undiagnosed.

For some people it causes persistent redness. Others experience flushing, visible blood vessels, sensitivity or acne-like bumps. Symptoms often come and go, with periods of flare-ups followed by calmer skin.

At Alchemy Clinic, we believe that managing rosacea starts with understanding your skin. Rather than recommending the same treatment for everyone, every rosacea journey begins with a consultation so we can understand not only your skin, but the factors that may be influencing it too.

A consultation-led approach

No two people experience rosacea in exactly the same way.

Some clients are mainly concerned by persistent redness, while others struggle with frequent flushing, sensitivity, visible thread veins or inflammatory breakouts.

Because rosacea presents differently for everyone, we don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment plans.

Instead, we take time to understand your skin, your history and your goals before recommending the treatments and homecare most appropriate for you.

Depending on your skin and your goals, you can choose from four consultation options.

Online Homecare Consultation (£50)

Perfect if you're looking for expert skincare advice but aren't ready for in-clinic treatments or you simply can't get to the clinic.

Together we'll assess your skin, current routine, lifestyle and concerns before creating a personalised homecare plan.

£50 redeemable against the purchase of two or more products within four weeks.

The Skin Reset (£495)

Our signature programme is designed for clients wanting a more comprehensive approach to long-term skin health.

This is our most recommended programme for anyone who feels they've tried everything without finding lasting control over their rosacea. If you've already worked your way through prescription creams, repeated courses of antibiotics or countless skincare products, The Skin Reset allows us to step back, build a more complete picture and create a personalised plan designed around you.

Alongside ongoing support and personalised recommendations, the programme includes an Omega-3 Balance Test and an HbA1c (blood sugar) test, helping us better understand your overall health while supporting your skin journey.

Understanding rosacea

Rosacea is far more than sensitive skin.

It is considered a chronic inflammatory skin condition involving changes within the skin, the immune system and the blood vessels. Exactly why rosacea develops isn't fully understood, but genetics, environmental factors and an overactive inflammatory response are all thought to contribute.

While there is currently no cure for rosacea, many people achieve excellent long-term control of their symptoms with the right combination of skincare, professional treatments and lifestyle strategies.

Why does rosacea flare up?

Most people living with rosacea quickly realise that certain things seem to make their skin worse.

Common triggers include:

  • Sun exposure
  • Heat
  • Alcohol
  • Spicy foods
  • Stress
  • Vigorous exercise
  • Sudden temperature changes
  • Certain skincare products

However, triggers aren't the same as causes, and they vary enormously from person to person.

You may also have heard that gut health, hormones, inflammation or nutrition can influence rosacea, but understanding what is actually relevant to your skin is far less straightforward.

At Alchemy Clinic, we don't believe every person with rosacea should avoid the same foods, take the same supplements or follow the same advice. Instead, we work with you to identify patterns that may be contributing to your flare-ups.

Where appropriate, we may also explore factors such as stress, sleep, nutrition, skin barrier health and essential fatty acid status to build a more complete understanding of what may be influencing your symptoms.

Have you tried antibiotics but your rosacea keeps coming back?

Many of our rosacea clients arrive feeling frustrated.

They've tried prescription creams, completed one or more courses of antibiotics and may even have seen an improvement while taking them, only for the redness, flushing or inflammation to gradually return.

For many people, antibiotics can be an appropriate part of medical management, particularly during inflammatory flare-ups. However, they don't necessarily explain why your rosacea behaves the way it does, and they're not always intended to be a long-term solution.

At Alchemy Clinic, we take a different approach.

Rather than asking, “What treatment should we do next?”, we first ask, “What might be influencing your skin?”

Together we'll look at your skin history, previous treatments, skincare routine and lifestyle, exploring whether factors such as skin barrier health, stress, sleep, nutrition, essential fatty acid status and other individual triggers could be contributing to your symptoms.

We don't believe every person with rosacea has the same underlying influences, which is why every treatment plan is tailored to the individual.

For many of our clients, understanding their skin is just as valuable as the treatments themselves.

Functional health testing

Testing isn't appropriate for everyone, but where relevant it can help us better understand your overall health alongside your skin.

Depending on your consultation, we may recommend:

  • Omega-3 Balance Test (included with the Deep Dive Consultation and The Skin Reset)
  • HbA1c Test (included with The Skin Reset)
  • Vitamin D Test
  • Gut Health Test

These tests are considered alongside your consultation and clinical assessment to help guide more personalised recommendations where appropriate.

Professional treatments for rosacea

Every rosacea treatment plan is tailored to the individual.

Depending on your skin, we may recommend one or a combination of the following treatments.

Laser Genesis

There is currently no cure for rosacea, but many people achieve excellent long-term control of their symptoms through the right combination of skincare, professional treatments and lifestyle adjustments.

Rosacea flare-ups are often influenced by individual triggers such as heat, stress, alcohol, spicy foods or UV exposure. Identifying your own patterns is often one of the most helpful steps in managing rosacea.

This is one of the questions we're asked most often, and unfortunately there isn't a single answer.

Some clients notice improvements within a few months, while others take much longer to achieve stable, consistent control of their symptoms. Rosacea is usually a condition that requires long-term management rather than a quick fix.

The timeline depends on many factors, including how long you've had rosacea, the type of rosacea you have, your triggers, your skin barrier health and how consistently you're able to follow your personalised plan.

At Alchemy Clinic, we focus on helping you better understand your skin and creating a treatment plan that's realistic and sustainable. The more comprehensive the consultation, the more information we have to build a personalised plan and adapt it as your skin changes over time.

While we can never guarantee results or predict exactly how long your journey will take, we'll always be honest about what we think is realistic and support you throughout your journey.

Not necessarily.

Laser Genesis or IPL can be extremely helpful for many people, but they're just one part of a wider treatment plan. Your consultation helps us determine which combination of treatments, skincare and lifestyle strategies is likely to be most appropriate for you.

Rosacea is a complex condition and there isn't one proven cause.

Research suggests there may be links between rosacea and certain gut conditions in some people, but these associations don't apply to everyone.

At Alchemy Clinic, we don't assume gut health is responsible for every case of rosacea, but where appropriate we'll consider whether it forms part of the wider picture.

In many cases, yes.

The products you choose can make a difference, particularly if your skin is sensitive or your skin barrier has become compromised. We'll recommend products that are appropriate for your skin and avoid ingredients that may unnecessarily aggravate your symptoms.
